The screenplay for the 2022 DC movie The Batman, which stars Robert Pattinson as the titular caped crusader, can now be read for free online.

The official screenplay for The Batman is now available to read for free online. The film, which is the latest live-action project to dramatize the exploits of the iconic hero who premiered in DC Comics more than 80 years ago, stars Robert Pattinson in the title role alongside Zoë Kravitz as Catwoman, Paul Dano as The Riddler, Jeffrey Wright as Commissioner Gordon, Andy Serkis as Alfred, and Colin Farrell as The Penguin. The Batman premiered on March 4 of this year and quickly rose to become one of the highest-grossing films of 2022; it is set to close out New Year’s at No. 6 in the domestic box office chart and No. 7 worldwide.

SCREENRANT VIDEO OF THE DAY

Deadline has released the script for The Batman as part of their Read the Screenplay series, which highlights important writing from this year’s awards season. The screenplay was co-written by the film’s director, Matt Reeves, and Peter Craig, a novelist who has also penned the scripts for blockbuster films like The Hunger Games: Mockingjay – Part One and Bad Boys for Life, in addition to providing the story for this year’s smash hit Top Gun: Maverick. One notable element of the screenplay, which can now be read in full online, is the fact that it’s only 129 pages long despite the film’s 3-hour runtime, which implies that The Batman‘s visual and action sequences dominated more of the runtime than dialogue.

What Are The Batman’s Awards Chances This Season?

The publication’s confidence that The Batman‘s awards season run will perform well is sure to intrigue many superhero movie fans. Although superhero tentpole films have tended to dominate the box office over the past decade and change, they are infrequently showered with trophies when awards time rolls around. The Batman hasn’t scored any huge strides early on despite winning two Saturn Awards for Best Director and Best Costume Design.

The nominations for the 2023 Golden Globes, which were announced in early December, did snub the film entirely. The only superhero project that received any nominations at all was Marvel’s Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, which nabbed nominations for Best Original Song and Best Supporting Actress for Angela Bassett. The Golden Globes is an awards ceremony that is typically viewed as something of a predictor for what will be nominated at the Oscars, though the Hollywood Foreign Press Association has recently come under fire for a lack of diversity in their voting body, so it remains to be seen if that will continue to hold true.

The Batman has been given more of a shot by the Academy so far, as it appeared three times in the 10 shortlists they released for certain Oscar categories. The film is present in the Makeup and Hairstyling, Sound, and Visual Effects shortlists, though Michael Giacchino’s score was notably snubbed, to the dismay of fans. The nominations for Best Adapted screenplay are up in the air, so The Batman may have a shot in that category as well. Although the Golden Globes are a wash for the superhero picture, which is technically not part of the DC Universe, it has a shot of taking home at least one Oscar in a technical category, though any of the bigger awards seem like a pipe dream given the film’s absence from other major awards ceremonies so far.
