The Game of Thrones prequel about Aegon’s Conquest in development at HBO has reignited calls to cast Henry Cavill as Aegon the Conqueror.
A new Game of Thrones prequel in development at HBO has reignited a popular fan casting. On the heels of House of the Dragon season 1’s success, a recent report revealed that another Game of Thrones prequel show, this one adapting Aegon’s Conquest, is being actively discussed at HBO. The spinoff series is still in early development without a writer attached, though this hasn’t stopped fans from fervently suggesting their favorite casting for the role of Aegon the Conqueror – Henry Cavill.
Soon after the Game of Thrones prequel news surfaced, fans took to Twitter to reignite their campaign to get Cavill cast as Aegon the Conqueror. Fans argued the British actor was born to play the role, and considering his exit from The Witcher after season 3, Cavill’s schedule is freed up to take on another fantasy franchise role. Check out a few fan reactions below:
Could Henry Cavill Be Cast As Aegon The Conqueror?
The Cavill fan casting began last year when House of the Dragon season 1 revealed that Aegon I Targaryen had visions of a White Walker invasion that motivated his conquering of Westeros. This led to speculation the second season may feature the first flashback to the character, and fans suggested The Witcher star would be perfect to play him. Cavill even commented on potentially joining the House of the Dragon season 2 cast, saying “I think it would be cool to be in Westeros,” but “I don’t think there’s a place for me.”
Cavill’s schedule has been freed up considerably since he last made those comments. He will no longer be playing Geralt of Rivia in The Witcher after season 3, nor will he continue playing Superman in James Gunn’s new DCU following his Black Adam cameo. Cavill possesses the stoicism and physicality necessary to play Aegon the Conqueror, and with HBO in early development on a Game of Thrones prequel show for the character, the popular fan casting could become a reality.
