Dave Bautista hilariously reveals that he didn’t finish reading the script for Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery, as he wanted to avoid spoilers. Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery, the much-anticipated follow-up to Rian Johnson’s 2019 whodunnit Knives Out, landed on Netflix in December and assembled an all-new cast of famous faces as Benoit Blanc was called to solve another curious mystery. Glass Onion saw Daniel Craig return as Blanc, the charismatic and world-renowned detective, while Kate Hudson, Edward Norton, Janelle Monáe, Jessica Henwick, Kathryn Hahn, Leslie Odom Jr, Madelyn Cline, and Bautista also filled Johnson’s call sheet.
Glass Onion offered audiences another puzzling mystery that brought with it a whole host of twists and turns, and now it seems one of the film’s stars didn’t want to know the ending beforehand.
While visiting The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, Bautista sat down to discuss his recent projects, before revealing that he doesn’t always read the full scripts for some of his movies. Bautista then revealed that he didn’t read the end of Glass Onion, as he wanted to be surprised when he watched the film for the first time. Check out Bautista’s full quote below.
I am guilty of not reading the endings of scripts of movies I’m in. I didn’t [read Glass Onion’s ending.] I hope Rian’s not pissed at me. I totally didn’t. I’m a fan! If I’m not involved in the end, I want to go and I watch it like a fan. I kind of can get a sense of what I need to do [without reading it.] I’m not unprofessional! I know my dialogue. I want to be surprised.
Glass Onion’s Twist Ending Explained
After inviting his friends to his private island for a murder mystery soirée, Miles (Norton) finds himself at the center of an actual murder investigation when Duke (Bautista) collapses and dies after drinking from Miles’ glass. While Miles, on the outside, is convinced that one of his guests was attempting to murder him, the plot quickly thickens after Andi (Monáe) is then shot following a chaotic scramble to discover who killed Duke. The twist, however, is that Andi isn’t really Andi after all and is in fact her twin sister Helen and the bullet is thankfully stopped by a notebook that Helen is carrying.
It’s revealed that Benoit Blanc was invited to Miles’ private island by Helen who is seeking answers surrounding the mysterious circumstances of her sister’s death. Audiences discover that Andi’s death came as a tragic result of her business partnership with Miles after she was ousted by him as he sought to take all credit for the creation of a new energy source named Klear. After discovering Andi’s plans to expose Miles with her original napkin that detailed the Klear concept, Miles drugs Andi and stages her death to look like a suicide. As the third act of Glass Onion sees Benoit Blanc uncover each element of Miles’ elaborate plan, audiences learn that Duke’s death was also at the hands of Miles.
Expect Knives Out 3 To Offer Completely New Surprises
Rather than simply replicating Knives Out, Glass Onion offered a unique new take on Johnson’s already beloved formula, leaving audiences incredibly eager to learn what the director’s upcoming third installment will entail. Currently in its earliest stages of development, Johnson has already teased that Knives Out 3 will be entirely different both thematically and tonally, though any further details have yet to be revealed as Johnson now works on building the story. With the director having also ruled out the return of any previous Knives Out or Glass Onion stars, it’s likely Bautista will look forward to watching Knives Out 3 solely as a fan this time around.
